Material review & documentation

Many companies know their packaging by sight but cannot show it on paper. We record the materials you actually use, assess them technically and bring the supplier evidence into a form your EU customers can work with.

Typical starting situations

A customer in Germany wants to know which materials are used in your pallet packaging, and the answer is spread across three people and several e-mails. Or specifications exist, but nobody knows whether the current film, strapping or carton still matches the data sheet. In such cases the problem is rarely the packaging itself. It is the lack of a clear, current record.

How we work

We follow our four-step approach, with the focus on the second step, material and document review. After an initial assessment of your packaging and your customers’ requirements, we go through your load units on site or from photos and bills of materials. We record each material, compare it with the documents you have and mark what is missing, outdated or unclear.

Then we assess the materials technically: Is the specification suitable for the transport route? Are there materials that could be reduced or replaced? Which supplier statements cover the material only, and which say something about the assembled packaging? This last distinction matters, because a supplier declaration for a single material is not automatically a declaration of conformity for the complete packaging.

What changes for EU customers

EU customers increasingly ask for structured material information, partly because of the PPWR (Regulation (EU) 2025/40), which applies from 12 August 2026. A clean register and a tidy evidence folder let you answer such enquiries quickly and consistently, in German or English. The same data also feeds directly into packaging optimization, because you can only improve what you have measured.

Result

You have one reliable overview of your packaging materials, know which evidence you hold and which you still need to request, and have a clear order of priorities for supplier contacts. We do not guarantee that any document will satisfy a particular customer or authority; we make sure you know exactly what you have. To discuss your situation, use the contact form.

Frequently asked questions

What does a packaging material inventory include?

It lists every material in a load unit, for example carton, insert, cushioning, stretch film, strapping, edge protection and pallet. For each we record type, supplier, weight, dimensions and the evidence available.

Do we need to collect documents from all suppliers at once?

No. We usually start with the materials that appear most often or are asked about by customers, and extend step by step. This keeps the effort manageable for your team and the suppliers.

Does a supplier declaration cover the whole packaging?

Not automatically. A declaration for one material says little about the assembled packaging as placed on the market. We check what each document covers and where it stops.
